  • Hematological Evaluation: Blood tests reveal cytopenias, including decreased white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet counts, indicative of bone marrow suppression.
  • Radiological Imaging: Radiographic studies may show evidence of radiation-induced tissue damage or changes in affected organs, such as lung infiltrates or gastrointestinal mucosal injury.
  • Dosimetry: Dosimetric measurements help quantify radiation exposure and guide risk assessment and management decisions.

Treatment:

Management of ARS focuses on:

  • Supportive Care: Symptomatic treatment aims to alleviate nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and pain using antiemetics, intravenous fluids, and analgesics.
  • Hematopoietic Growth Factors: Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) or granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) may be administered to stimulate bone marrow recovery and enhance blood cell production.
  • Antibiotics: Prophylactic or therapeutic antibiotics are indicated to prevent or treat infections secondary to immunosuppression.
