  • Corpus Luteum Formation: Following ovulation, the remnants of the Graafian follicle form a temporary structure called the corpus luteum, which produces hormones essential for early pregnancy.

If the released egg is fertilized by sperm in the fallopian tube, it may implant in the uterus and result in pregnancy. If fertilization does not occur, the corpus luteum regresses, hormone levels decrease, and menstruation occurs, marking the start of a new menstrual cycle.
