Aspirin is a commonly used over-the-counter supplement that is given to treat inflammation and heart-related disorders. Sometimes, it is advised to take aspirin daily to fight the body’s own inflammatory response, especially in heart patients. But taking aspirin on regular basis has more side effects than health benefits. Here are a few natural alternatives that you can take instead of using aspirin every day to maintain heart health:

GINGER:

  • According to a study published in Pennington Nutrition Series in 2007, ginger is one of the healthiest herbs present to mankind for heart health.
  • Ginger has various benefits that make it an ideal natural alternative to aspirin to maintain heart health:
    1. Anti-inflammatory nature
    2. Anti-thrombotic property
    3. Cholesterol-lowering property
    4. Blood pressure-lowering quality
    5. Anti-oxidant nature
    6. Hypoglycemic property
  • Researchers at the Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Connecticut have successfully proven that ginger has the potential to improve blood circulation in the aorta. It was also shown to reduce the intensity of heart damage that has been caused by oxygen deprivation in angina patients.
  • According to researchers at the University of Maryland Medical Center, ginger, in large doses (10 grams or above), significantly reduces platelet aggregation and coronary blockage in heart patients.
  • Ginger also possesses strong cholesterol-lowering qualities and reduces the viscosity of blood platelets, keeping your heart healthy and strong. It can be taken as an alternative to aspirin in supplement form or crushed and added in food.

GARLIC:

  • Garlic, too, has shown properties that promote heart health. The chemical present in garlic known as Allicin is a compound that has potent antioxidants, as well as anti-microbial activities, that protect our heart.
  • According to a research paper published in the 2006 edition of the Journal of Nutrition, garlic has shown to inhibit enzymes involved in lipid synthesis, decrease platelet aggregation, and increase antioxidant status, which keeps your heart healthy and is a decent alternative to aspirin.

TURMERIC:

  • According to Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, turmeric is a miracle herb that possesses various heart-healing properties. It contains an abundant amount of Curcumin that has anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning properties. These qualities can benefit a patient with heart disorders like atherosclerosis and coronary blockage.
  • A study published in the 2008 edition of the Journal of Clinical Investigation has stated that Curcumin, obtained from turmeric, has the potential to prevent heart failure caused by high blood pressure and hypertension in mammals.
  • A dose of 400-550 milligrams has the ability to thin the blood and keep your heart healthy in a natural way, as opposed to a regular intake of aspirin.

BROMELAIN (FOUND IN PINEAPPLES):

  • Bromelain is a heart-healthy enzyme that is found naturally in fruits such as pineapples. It can be used as a natural alternative to aspirin to maintain heart health.
  • According to a study published in the Journal of Chinese Integrative Medicine in 2011, it was proven that Bromelain, a natural substance found in pineapple, could be used for treating acute thrombophlebitis, as it decreases the aggregation of blood platelets. It also has a potent cardio-protective effect that helps to prevent thrombin-induced human platelet aggregation and thrombus formation.

Instead of opting for aspirin that has various side effects, you can choose these natural medicines that will protect your heart and overall well-being. These natural alternatives can be considered instead of regular consumption of aspirin to take care of your heart.
