What is Baskian Viper Snake Bite? (Definition/Background Information)

• The Baskian viper (Vipera seoanei) is a moderately venomous snake found in many parts of western Europe that includes the countries of France, Portugal, and Spain. It is also known as the Iberian viper or Iberian cross adder. The snake belongs to the viper family or Viperidae and is found in altitudes ranging from mean sea level to about 6,200 feet (1,900 m). • The Baskian viper can grow to reach nearly 2.5 feet in length, but the average adult size is less than 1.5 feet. The viper is a land-dwelling reptile that is seen in a wide range of habitats including moist deciduous forest, lower montane forest and forest edges, open glades, and rocky slopes. It can be also seen on agricultural lands (including commonly in orchards and vineyards)
