What is the General Developmental Screening Tool?

The General Developmental Screening Tool is a form of screening tool used by healthcare providers to take a closer look into how a child is progressing (grows and develops).

General Development Screening Tools are typically formal questionnaires that focus on the topics of language, movement, thinking, emotions, and other developmental milestones
Developmental Screening Tools are regular parts of most well-child visits/physical evaluations. They are conducted to help understand if a child needs more help with development, or if further developmental screening is necessary
General Developmental Screening Tools are useful when trying to identify behavior concerns as early as possible. Examples of these behavior concerns include:
- Autism
- Learning disorder
- ADHD/ADD
- Developmental disabilities

In addition to General Development Screening Tools, healthcare providers may also use more specified screening tools to evaluate a particular area of development (language for example). There are also condition-specific screening tools (such as autism screening).
