Monica E. de Baca MD, FCAP, FASCP, is a pathologist board certified in Anatomic and Clinical and Hematology(Pathology). She specializes in examination bone marrow and tissue samples; she diagnoses case using morphologic findings, Flow cytometry, FISH, and Molecular Diagnostic testing methods (including a CGH and SNP). Her research interests include the biology of myelodysplastic syndromes, plasma cell neoplasms, and pathology informatics, especially integrated reporting. She has published in multiple peer reviewed articles in the medical press. Her past experiences include years of AP/CP pathology practice, medical directorships of CAP accredited high complexity laboratories and academic associations. She is active in the College of American Pathologists, having participated in the SNOMED International Editorial Board and co-authored many of the CAP Cancer Checklists. Currently, she is active in the Diagnostic Intelligence Health Information Technology Committee. Dr. de Baca holds an MD from the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is residency and fellowship trained in Ophthalmology (Land Brandenburg, German) and Pathology (AP/CP/ Hematology) at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia PA.

I come from a multi-lingual family and so realized early on that understanding what is communicated, and helping those who do not, is the key to good relationships, good outcomes. Specialized languages, like that used in medicine, have developed to allow succinct communication of complex ideas amongst like-trained individuals. Specialized languages definitely have a place in the world - amongst trained professional. The medical message, however, is not one that all members of the conversation understand. These messages need to be contextualized for all listeners- patients, families, friends, other non-medical allied professionals and others. DoveMed attempts to do just that. I am proud to be able to offer my skills to such a worthy endeavor.
