Biographical Information

Bradley Day, MD, graduated summa cum laude from Millikin University in May 2011 with a BS in Biology. While there, he became extensively involved in solid-state chemistry research that is still ongoing. His ultimate interest shifted not toward bioengineering but toward wet lab evaluation of nutrition and research of treatment strategies to maintain the same and prevent nutrition disorders. During the summer of 2012, after his first year of medical school, he was awarded a fellowship in a program through the NIDDK to work with an experienced investigator at Vanderbilt University in discerning more of the molecular underpinnings of diabetes, and type 2 in particular. Through this and similar work, improved treatments for type 2 diabetes mellitus are actively being sought.Day graduated from medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine’s Urbana regional campus in May 2016. While working on some clinical electives in the hospital, he became involved in patient recruitment and follow-up for a translational nutrition project between the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Neonatology Unit at Carle Foundation Hospital. Results from this work should shed light on best practices in feeding strategies of premature infants who may have trouble breastfeeding. He will be beginning residency training in family medicine in Texas in the summer of 2017.

Value of DoveMed

Many resources, particularly on the Internet, do not filter information as stringently as could be done, and do not educate people as much as could perhaps be done. DoveMed seeks to not merely take a symptom and give a laundry list of possible problems, including anxiety-inducing “worst-case scenarios”, but rather to educate individuals on what could be happening in their bodies. Worst-case scenarios are not avoided; rather, information is presented so that individuals feel empowered. Instead of feeling scared, individuals can feel competent to ask questions of their healthcare providers and play a part in obtaining the best care for themselves.
