What is Adenoma of Bartholin Gland? (Definition/Background Information)

  • Adenoma of Bartholin Gland is a benign proliferation (tumor or adenoma) of glandular cells on the Bartholin gland. The tumor may be present as a painless mass
  • Bartholin glands are glands that are present normally on either side of the women’s genital area namely, the vagina. Their function is to secrete a fluid into the vagina, in order to make the vaginal opening smooth and slippery
  • Adenoma of Bartholin Gland affects women who are in their reproductive age. A lump in the vaginal area and discomfort while walking are the most common symptoms of the condition. Sometimes, the tumors can ulcerate and bleed
  • Only symptomatic tumors need treatment, and this usually involves surgical excision and removal. The prognosis of Bartholin Gland Adenoma is excellent with appropriate treatment
