The Brussels sprout is a leafy green vegetable that is a member of the species Brassica oleracea. This species includes many common foods like cabbage, kale, broccoli, collard greens, cauliflower, and kohlrabi. Despite being native to the Mediterranean region, Brussels sprouts received its name due to the consumption popularity in Brussels, Belgium. People usually refer Brussels spouts as miniature cabbages because of their small size at 2.5 cm to 4 cm.

Here are the seven health benefits of Brussels sprouts.

1.     Brussels sprouts could help enhance blood circulation.

Brussels sprouts contain sulfur compounds necessary to the circulatory system. Though these are also responsible for the gas that many individuals experience, steaming or boiling instead of harsher cooking methods may help. That is because the chlorophyll that is left helps counteract any gassy effects.

2.     Brussels sprouts are rich in cancer inhibitors.

Substances that detoxify carcinogenic compounds before they can cause harm to the body are known as cancer inhibitors. Brussels sprouts are loaded with these.

3.     Brussels sprouts are higher in protein than most vegetables.

Vegetables are not known for their protein content, and vegans appreciate an excellent source of protein when they find it. They should look no further than brussels sprouts.

4.     Brussels sprouts could help support red blood cells and oxygenation.

Brussels sprouts are high in bioavailable iron. This supports proper red blood cell production, known as hematopoiesis, which in turn facilitates oxygenation of bodily tissues.

5.     Brussels sprouts could help provide anti-inflammatory effects.

Rich in vitamin K, brussels sprouts help relieve inflammation symptoms. This is useful in counteracting many pro-inflammatory foods present in the American diet.

6.     Brussels sprouts could help promote clotting ability.

Brussels sprouts are laden with nutrients essential to the body’s clotting response.

7.     Brussels sprouts could help enhance energy and vitality.

Brussels sprouts contain notable amounts of vitamin B in its various forms. These support proper energy production and utilization by the body.
